Remember when

This classic photo was likely taken in the 1970s looking north towards Ponoka’s historical Red Brick School. Hundreds of bikes are locked safely in the racks while the students attend school at the Brick or Elementary Schools. Most are the three speed bikes with the hooked handle bars, and you can’t help but notice the saddle bags on the back wheel, which were used for hauling books, lunch kits, and what-ever else we could stuff in.

Most youngsters now come to their classes by bus or car, but it was always a rush when the afternoon bell rang and everyone rushed out to hop on their bikes and head for home under the direction and safety of the trusty school patrol.
