What does it take to be the biggest loser in Ponoka?

Try losing more than 15 kilograms in total body mass and more than nine inches around your waist — that’s exactly what 2011 winner Auvery Reed did.

The competition started in late January with 14 people of different weight, shapes and sizes. After paying an entry fee, all competitors received one-on-one counselling by instructors as well as nutrition programs to maximize their weight loss.

“I was really unhappy with my weight at the time and I wanted to look and feel better so I decided to join the competition,” said Reed.

After making it to the final round of the competition with the top five competitors spending eight extra weeks trimming the fat and building muscle, Reed shifted into overdrive.

“I spent five to six days a week in the gym and an hour-and-a-half here each time,” said Reed.

Reed attributes her success in the competition to the commitment that was shown by the staff at Rippin’ Ronnie’s as well as the fact that she put her commitment down on paper.

“It really helped me to push through the work and time that was consumed by this, but I plan on keeping it going for a while,” said Reed.

“The staff here are really dedicated to each person,” said Reed. “They’re always interested in how you were doing.”
