The second year of the annual Rock ‘n Rimbey has grown over its inaugural introduction to the community, and will see the inclusion of multiple new events.

Organizing Lions Club members Suella Brodie and Terry Von Hollen say last year the event was a one-day affair, but there is enough action and events this year to pack the Aug. 25, 26, 27 weekend.

New this year is the Main Street Festival, which runs Aug. 25 from 4 to 7 p.m.

“We just need to convey again, if you’re participating let me know,” said Von Hollen, who can be contacted at 403-358-8141.

He says organizers would like to know which community businesses and organizations are participating in the Street Festival before the weekend of the event to ensure each group is organized in their own space along Main Street without confusion.

Another addition this year is the Aug. 25 beer gardens and live music, which will take place in the Co-op parking lot from 9 p.m. to midnight. The band Slow Walkin’ Walter will be playing.

Central Alberta Raceways is hosting Street Legal Shootout car races on Aug. 27, starting at 11 a.m.; also a new addition to the event.

Rock n’ Rimbey includes several sports tournaments as part of the line up this year.

A slowpitch tournament kicks off Aug. 25.

“There’s also a horseshoe tournament,” said Von Hollen. It takes place Aug. 26 and 27.

The bocce ball tournament will be held Aug. 27.

Contact numbers and names for all of the events are available online on the Rock ‘n Rimbey website: http://www.rocknrimbey.com/events-rally, and are stated as, “Slowpitch Tourney Fri./Sat./Sun. contact Stephanie for details 403-350-0915

Not new this year is the Setting the Stage business dress up competition. Businesses wishing to participate can decorate their businesses and staff in a 1950s and ‘60s rock and roll theme.

“Last year we had memorabilia, paraphernalia, music, dancing,” said Brodie.

Brodie says organizers are hoping those businesses that are able to will start decorating the week before the event to help create that rock and roll theme throughout the town.

Businesses looking to participate can contact Brodie to 403-877-6387 to enter.

A list of participating businesses will be made available to the public at a later date for those wishing to take a tour of the decorations and displays.
