The chance to be Rimbey rodeo queen, and, in the process have a great time, meet new and interesting people, and enjoy the limelight in an exciting way does not seem to be of interest to any young girls in the area.

Katelynn Husband, queen manager of the Rimbey Rodeo Board said there has been zero response to their quest for rodeo queen contestants.

“We are still looking,” she said. “We’ve put posters up and gone to school and put ads in the papers. Still nothing.”

Husband said the contest is open to girls from 16 to 21 years of age. Contestants are required to speak to students at the Rimbey high school, [participate in a horsemanship competition, complete a rodeo test and volunteer at a number of events.

All contestants are provided with jackets and will have their picture taken by a professional photographer.

The young lady who is selected as queen receives roses, and a sash, and a special shirt.

The rodeo queen rides in the Rimbey parade and takes part in the grand entry.

Husband, who was rodeo queen in 2008, said the experience was fun.

“I learned a lot and met a lot of really cool people. I was very shy and the whole experience gave me more confidence,” she said.

Last year’s rodeo queen was Ryley Davies from Rocky Mountain House.

Anyone interested in participating in the rodeo queen contest may contact Katelynn at 403-963-1270.

Rimbey’s rodeo will be held July 13 to 15.
