Ponoka Elementary School was given a concert by the Strathcona Christian Academy band on May 23.

The concert featured both a concert band and a jazz band and was attended by grades kindergarten through five.

The band played pieces from Pirates of the Caribbean, Spider- Man, a piece based on a poem by Edgar Allen Poe, and Star Wars.

The concert band, for one song, also included a keyboard played by Justin Schultz, which, according to musical director Mark Lietz, is an unusual instrument for a concert band.

“We have 27 students on tour,” Lietz said. “Today is actually our second concert.”

Prizes were also given away to students from each grade who were able to name certain songs and instruments from the different groups including brass and woodwind
