Students are staging a spring production of Charlie’s Angels, based off the original TV show.

The cast of 18 has been rehearsing since April for their four performances. However, it hasn’t been an easy path getting to where they are now, especially for Angel Kelly Garrett, played by Nikki Smith.

“I didn’t even get the role in the beginning. But then the girl dropped out and it was given to me,” Smith explained. She then broke her leg four weeks ago.

Kevin Ferguson, the director, went back through the script and reworked most of the scenes to accommodate her condition.

The adaption begins in 1977 with the Angels on the hunt for a time-travelling scientist, Dr. E-Ville. E-Ville has jumped to the year 2012 and the Angels must fetch him back.

With two and a half months of rehearsals under their belts, the cast has grown into their roles.

“You become the character. You get to add in things you think your character would do,” said Hailey Boser, an Angel.

Ferguson picked the play after he’d assessed the kids who were auditioning. Since there were many girls this year he needed a play that would lend itself to that fact.

“They’ve been good with knowing their lines. I’ve talked to teachers and parents and they’re always amazed how well they know their lines,” Ferguson said.

The play was performed for the school’s grades 6 to 8 on May 31 and June 4 and 6.

June 4 also included a performance open to the public.
