The second in a concert series is set to play at the Ponoka Legion.

Organized by Ponoka County resident Markus Skovsgaard, the concert is part of a quarterly series he plans to bring to town. This latest show brings Winnipeg, Man. honky tonk group Sean Burns and Lost Country to town on Monday, March 12 at 7 p.m.

“We’re just going to do a night of traditional country music,” said Skovsgaard.

“I’d relate it to ’80s and ’90s kind of honky tonk. A little bit more upbeat.”

Burns’ guitarist is Grant Siemens, the guitar player for Corb Lund, and someone that Skovsgaard feels is one of the best country guitar players in Canada.

And knowing Burns playing style, Skovsgaard expects it to be a fun show.

Special guest will be Boots Graham from Boots and the Hoots. Skovsgaard’s hope is to bring great music to Ponoka but to also support the Legion.

The last concert he hosted was a fundraiser for the Wounded Warriors program that brought several bands into town.

As for the Legion, Skovsgaard said the group is keen to see these concerts continue. “After the first event that we did for Remembrance Day they had expressed some interest in doing this again.”

On tap will be beer from Siding 14 Brewery, said Skovsgaard, adding to the uniqueness of the show. Why the Legion? Skovsgaard served in the Canadian Reserves for some years and he feels it’s important to support local Legions.

Advance tickets are available at Siding 14 Brewery.
