Seasons Retirement Communities made a donation to the Ponoka Food Bank of $2,256 on July 26.
The sum was made up of a $2,000 corporate donation from Seasons Retirement Communities and just over $250 raised by Seasons Ponoka through its charity pancake breakfast during Ponoka Stampede week.
Seasons Retirement Communities is donating a combined $40,000 to food banks in Ontario and Alberta.
“Once more, we have chosen to do so in the summer, after learning that many food banks are in greater need during this time of the year,” said Taylor White, communications coordinator for Seasons Retirement Communities.
“This sum represents a $2,000 donation to a local food bank in each community where we operate retirement residences, including the Ponoka Food Bank.”
According to the 2018 annual report from Food Banks Alberta, the province remains among the highest in the country for food bank usage, and has a significant number of clients 65 and older.
Seasons Ponoka also donated 75 lbs worth of canned and non-perishable food items to the Ponoka Food Bank.
The food was collected as part of Seasons’ annual “One Can Make a Difference” challenge at each of its homes from July 2 to 15.
Seasons Retirement Communities is a Canadian company that operates 11 retirement communities in Ontario and nine residencies in Alberta.
