June 5 to 11 is Senior’s Week in Alberta, and the Town of Ponoka and other local seniors organizations will be celebrating the contributions older persons make to the community.

On June 6, Ponoka Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) presents “Rod Stewart Forever: Direct from Las Vegas” with tribute artist Martin Andrew.

The event, free to those over 65, is being held at the Ponoka Golf Club, with cocktails, dinner and the show, starting at 5:30 p.m. Call 403-783-4462 to reserve your seat.

The seniors participating in the event through FCSS can get a ride from the Handi-Van, with FCSS covering the cost. Call the driver at 403-783-0399.

The Town of Ponoka is holding an event to celebrate seniors on June 7 at the Ponoka Aquaplex (5315 46 Avenue).

Citizens are invited to come out for cake, tea and coffee at 9:30 a.m.

“Seniors’ Week is a great opportunity to celebrate the important role, knowledge, experience and enthusiasm that seniors bring to our community,” said Mayor Kevin Ferguson in a press release.

The Ponoka Drop-in Centre is hosting a Strawberry Social on June 9.

Join them for free strawberries, cake and ice cream from 2 to 4 p.m.

If you have any questions, call 403-783-5012 for more information.

Note: This story has been updated to include the FCSS event and to correct errors in times. The town’s event at the Aquaplex is at 9:30 a.m. not 9 a.m.
