The JJ Collett educational program has wrapped up for another year. Seventeen Grade 6 classes from 7 area schools participated in the program.  395 students walked the trails, identified trees and flowers, and enjoyed the wonders of the nature area. This program has been offered to schools over the past 12 years at no charge.  Approximately 4800 students and countless parent chaperones have benefitted from the JJ Collett educational program.

The program is designed to complement the Grade 6 Science unit on trees and forests. Not only does the fieldtrip serve as a great review for the students, it draws on the natural beauty and history of the JJ Collett area.  The nature area serves as a large living classroom and brings to life concepts covered in the classroom. Students come away with a greater appreciation of nature and the environment.  They are awed by the vastness of the area and often comment on the peacefulness.

St. Augustine’s School gives back to the nature area each year.  Students exceed the expected behaviors during the fieldtrips and the school makes a donation to the JJ Collett Foundation.  Students recycle drink containers during the year and then donate a significant sum to JJ Collett. Donations have been used to purchase ponchos for rainy days or go directly into the foundation fund.  Thank you St. Augustine’s school for your commitment to the future.
