Achieving the perfect lawn can sometimes be a challenge. It is important to take good care of your lawn and cut it regularly to maintain a lawn that you can be proud of.
Dale Hoar, the acreage and commercial sales specialist at Agro Ponoka, thinks that for people in town taking care of their lawn has many benefits.
“It gives people some exercise when doing lawn work. It’s easier for trimming and to get into tight areas,” said Hoar. “It’s a change in pace. It’s out being close to nature and it gives people a time to relax.”
Robert Johansen, from R.Johansen Sales Ltd. in the Ponoka area for 40 years, says that people like to create an artistic lawn when they go out to mow.
“The largest reason some people like to mow is to see the pattern in the lawn once it is done and to make the pattern pleasing. I’ve seen all different manners of doing a pattern but it is each person’s preference, a lot of people will cut it twice. Do it once and then cut again at a 90 degree angle,” said Johansen. “Also, to get the lawn neat and tidy is very important to some people.”
Johansen suggests that if the lawn is brand new, with grass that is not too thick, it is wise not to cut it too short or if the weather is extremely hot do not cut it too short.
Hoar says if you want to decrease your time on the lawn you could try the EZ track mower by John Deere, which is new to the residential market and travels eight miles per hour.
“They are fun to drive because they are really agile and they can turn on a dime. They are really fast,” said Hoar.
Johansen says that Honda has developed the Versamow feature, which helps to adjust how much grass goes back on the lawn and into the bag.
“The grass has to go back right to the soil if it is going to decompose properly. It is also important to remember if you do a total mulch you should water it right after you cut it,” said Johansen.
Cutting your grass and taking care of your lawn can be a very rewarding job. It is a great chore that can get you outside and enjoy a beautiful finished product.
