Caleb Froese, a pianist from the Crestomere area, performed two selections at the Provincial Music Festival in Edmonton May 25. His journey to provincials started at the Lacombe Music Festival in March where he played “Toccatina” by Dimitri Kabalevsky and “Study in A Flat Major” by Carl Czerny. It was there that he was recommended to compete at the provincial level.
After a very polished performance, Froese placed second out of a class of eighteen competitors from all over Alberta. His piano teacher, Merrigold Long, was thrilled to see him do so well. His diligent practise and love of music, coupled with sound teaching and the opportunities afforded by the Lacombe Music Festival, were integral in his success at the provincial level.
Froese is a Grade 10 student at the Ponoka Composite High School and plans to continue with his music studies. He is hoping to complete the Grade 8 Royal Conservatory practical exam next summer and aspires to continue his work in music after he finishes high school.
