There’s still time to buy tickets for the St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser that will bring “Calgary’s favourite band,” Curious George into town.

Set for March 17, the event is also a fundraiser for the Ponoka Arts, Recreation and Culture Society (PARCS), which aims to raise money for the town’s recreation plans, explained Justin Kelly, PARCS vice-chairperson.

The goal is to ensure a fun night of entertainment and Curious George does just that. “They’re the kind of band that gets people up and moving,” says Kelly.

While PARCS is still working on becoming a registered society, an action recently approved by town council, the goal of the group is to ensure there’s money in going to the town’s plans for a new mutli-use facility. With a plan in the works for a new building where the Ponoka Culture and Recreation Complex currently sits, PARCS’ hope is to continue to see more fundraisers like this to benefit the town.

Included in the fundraiser is a $2,000 travel voucher provided by Julie’s Travel, along with other prizes up for grabs. This is the first major fundraiser for PARCS and Kelly said the goal is to continue to grow these types of events.

Along with the band will be a courtesy shuttle and tickets can be purchased from Hamilton’s IGA, Jones Boys, the Town of Ponoka, Strand Media or any of the committee members.
