A tragic rollover killed a 22 year old Lacombe-area man on June 29. The man was driving his Chevy pickup west on Highway 53, 8 kms from Ponoka at about 4 a.m. when the truck lost control and went into the north ditch.

The driver lost control where the road curves and descends to cross the Battle River.

The truck went off the highway on the right, then swerved back across the highway into the left ditch and rolled several times. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The man was wearing his seatbelt at the time and his truck was heavily damaged.

It is believed that speed and alcohol may be contributing factors, but has not yet been confirmed.

The incident is still being investigated by RCMP and the man’s name is being withheld at the request of his family.
