Five employees at the Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury braved being duct-taped to a table in order to raise money and awareness for the Movember campaign.

The Movember team at the centre spent lunch hour Thursday, Nov. 14 selling strips of duct tape and selling baked goods to raise as much money as possible for their campaign.

For $10 dollars, staff could buy 10 strips of duct tape to ensure their co-workers would not fall off the table once lifted upright. Co-organizer and Mo-Sista Deanna Jones said this year many ladies joined in the effort and they wanted to bring some fun to the day.

“It was just a lot of people with a lot of ideas,” said Jones.

Chad Laughy is another organizer who also volunteered getting taped up. While being mummified onto the table, Laughy said their goal is to raise at least $15,000 and they may be on track to do that. The team raised $1,182 at the fundraiser.

Their Movember team, called CCMHBI, is ranked 106th in Canada, he said excitedly. “There’s literally thousands of teams across Canada.”

Brad Steeves is another organizer who is pleased with the strong turnout. He said Movember’s goal to raise money and awareness for men’s health issues is important. Prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health are the initiatives of the program.

Steeves feels their efforts at the centre have developed camaraderie and teamwork.

“That’s what health care is about, it’s about a team health care effort,” said Steeves.
