On April 1, 2024 West Ponoka 4-H beef club held their heifer mini-show at the Calnash Ag Event Centre. That following week on April 6 and 7 our club held their market steer mini-show at the Lacombe and District Ag Society. The mini shows are to get us and our animals prepared for the real 4-H show and sale.
We had a bit of a rodeo, there was a parent getting pulled in the mud behind a member’s steer and a few runaway calves, but the dads helped us out and we managed to get the steers all cleaned, dried, clipped and pictured for our catalogue.
Jennifer Diegel, Riley Sharp, and Jack McConnel taught out club tips for showmanship and grooming, and our parents transported us and our animals, helping tame down our animals and for provided the potluck.
We continue to work on our female and market steer projects and hope to have the calves ready for the show and sale on May 6 and 7. Save the date! We hope to see you there.
