Youth Centre trips fill up fast

Spaces for the summer program at the Ponoka Youth Centre are filling up fast.

Spaces for the summer program at the Ponoka Youth Centre are filling up fast.

“A lot of our field trip days fill up quite fast,” says Morgen Chernick, program director for the centre.

But they are ready for the summer and have new field trips planned as well as activities in town. Up to 42 kids can come on a field trip with four to five supervisors for the trip and there is always at least one staff member who is trained with first aid, level 3 child care certificate and CPR.

She enjoys the summer experience kids have and being able to provide a fun environment for them. The summer program runs July 2 to Aug. 23 with Monday, Wednesday and Friday in town, and Tuesday and Thursday for field trips.

New on the list for trips this year is a stop at Reptile World in Drumheller and Telus Spark Science Centre in Calgary. Also the West Edmonton Mall Adventure Challenge will give kids a chance to spend their summer energy. In town the splash park, aquaplex and Leisure Lanes Bowling are on the itinerary.

“Book now to avoid disappointment,” Chernick advised.

The program is for kids aged six to 13 and a family subsidy is available to eligible families. Forms for subsidy can be found at the Youth Centre. There will be eight staff working with the youth centre over the summer.
