Remember when

This classic photo was likely taken in the 1970s looking north towards Ponoka’s historical Red Brick School. Hundreds of bikes are locked safely in the racks while the students attend school at the Brick or Elementary Schools. Most are the three speed bikes with the hooked handle bars, and you can’t help but notice the saddle bags on the back wheel, which were used for hauling books, lunch kits, and what-ever else we could stuff in.

And for their parents, it can be an important springboard for a dive into learning. As such, it’s essential that parents encourage their youngsters to read-even when they’re on vacation.

As we close our year of 4-H our Regionals were successful with every member participating and receiving an award along with a little fun. We had a barbecue for our year end which every member received a horse cooler purchased from Jones Boys.

Each year the trailers fill up over the summer at the Frank Mickey Campgrounds, especially during stampede time. During the 2008 Ponoka Stampede more than 4,000 trailers were counted at the campsite and surrounding area. There are people from all walks of life and many travelers from all over North America, including Alaska.

Our province has taken a major stride forward to tackle the greenhouse gas emissions challenge on behalf of Albertans and all Canadians. We are investing in two practical initiatives that will reduce emissions equal to taking more than a million cars per year off the road. That amounts to one-third of all the vehicles registered in Alberta.
