Susan Reed loves candy so much she is taken to a rehabilitation centre with other kids her age trying overcome their addiction. Under the direction of program manger, Mrs. Ripley and psychiatrist and noted author, Dr. Sigmund, kids enrolled in this program must partake in group therapy every Monday, but unlike the other brainwashed patients, Reed feels she’s normal and the doctors are crazed, ultimately causing her to plan an escape.

Are the doctors the people with the true problem, or is Reed experiencing the effects of sugar withdrawal? You’ll have to find out for yourself, as this witty play is sure to entertain audiences of all ages alike.

Written by Diamond Willow Middle School teacher and playwright, Kevin Ferguson, and performed by the actors of the drama group, “Candy Rehab” as is now ready for the community see.

“This play is really fun and entertaining,” said Grade 8 student Sam Quinn who plays the demanding Dr. Sigmund. “It’s sure to keep audiences on their seats as there is an evil twist in it,” she said.

“Mr. Ferguson created it himself, and its been so much fun,” added Grade 8 student Cassidy Corkery who plays the “sarcastic rebel and main patient,” Susan Reed.

Ferguson, who has been writing plays for 20 years, writes a play every year. “My two sons helped come up with the idea for this one. We borrowed a few songs and rewrote them and hopefully everyone will come out and enjoy it,” he said.

Show times are June 3 and June 4 from 7 to 8 p.m. Admission is donation to the Ponoka Food Bank.
