Audiences will enjoy a fun and energetic cast in the holiday classic Elf — The Musical, a Ponoka Community Theatre Production presented by KFA and Ponoka United Church.

“It’s a great story; a lot of fun,” said Robin King, chair of KFA’s board.

After so much time off during the pandemic, the theatre group took the opportunity to reassess and re-brand.

Klaglahachie Fine Arts Society is now simply “KFA.”

Ponoka Community Theatre is under the non-profit umbrella of KFA, which also hopes to hold well summer camp, some productions specifically for children and concerts.

They also re-evaluated the types of shows they will be doing moving forward, as they wanted to choose productions that included as many people as possible, both with the age range of the cast, and community volunteers that help pull it all together.

Volunteers help with everything from costumes to set design, working the sound desk and lighting.

“That’s what community theatre is all about,” said King.

As a Christmas-themed film, it’s a classic around the holidays for many, with an upbeat, uplifting message, said King.

While there’s several big roles, there’s also a who group of children playing elves.

KFA chose Elf for those reasons, hoping it would be a musical everyone could enjoy, said King.

Buddy, the human who think’s he’s can elf, will be played by Todd Lewis while real-life wife Jula Lewis is playing Buddy’s love interest, Jovie.

Perry Wilson will portray Santa and David Luce is playing Buddy’s father, Walter Hobbs.

Some actors and actresses will be playing several roles.

Tanya Heyden-Kaye and Andrea Ramage are the co-directors.

Costuming is being done by Susan Chantal and her team.

The group has been practicing twice a week since September.
