The Ponoka Legion will be hosting “Legion of Laughs,” an improv and stand up comedy show Dec. 9, with proceeds going to the Ponoka Girl Guides.

Featuring the comedy duo Donovan Workun and Graham Neil, the event will include a silent auction that will raise funds for the Girl Guides’ upcoming overseas trip.

“We will be performing a comedy show made up on the spot, based on audience suggestions,” said Neil. “It’s much like Whose Line Is It Anyway?”

Neil added the pair are exited to be coming to Ponoka to put on a show at the Legion.

“As performers, we have been lucky enough to do comedy across North America, but there’s something special about legions and we are really happy every time we get to perform in one.

“In fact, we sought out legions to perform because we want to help keep them as a vibrant part of communities — plus we love meat draws and pickled eggs.”

He said it’s a bonus the event is a fundraiser for the Girl Guides as his daughter was a member.

“It gave her lot of leadership skills and gave me lots of cookies to eat.”

Neil recently retired as a broadcast media entertainment reporter. Some of his favourite interviews included the Rolling Stones, Willie Nelson, U2, Tom Cruise and Henry Winkler, best known for his role as “The Fonz.”

Workun is a three-time world improvising champion who has performed live across the world with the likes of Mike Myers and Colin Mochrie, starred on the hit CBC comedy the Irrelevant Show and has appeared in many TV shows and movies.
