The Ponoka Outreach School reached new heights with their annual perogy lunch on June 4 raising approximately $1,500 for their scholarship fund and award.

Students, staff, parents and grandparents lent a hand to make the lunch a success and cooked up and served perogies, sausages and drinks.

Principal Lawrence Hyrcan was excited about the support demonstrated by the community.

“It was an excellent turnout,” said Hyrcan. “It was unbelievable, the support that we received from the community was just fantastic.”

The nice weather allowed for people to enjoy their lunch outside on some picnic tables beside the school building.

The school served over 430 plates which was substantially more than previous years. There were 130 requests for takeout and 300 people were served their lunch at the school. The school initially had bought for less than that and had to run out and buy more food and supplies to meet the demand.
