Ponoka Community Theatre presents The Aristocats Kids

By Marilyn Matsuoka,

Director of Ponoka Community Theatre

Everybody wants to be a cat!

Ponoka Community Theatre presented Disney’s The Aristocats Kids at the Ponoka United Church theatre June 23 to 25. Directed by Brielle Casey and Tiffany Toma, 16 of Ponoka’s talented youth took to the stage.

Based on the original classic movie, audiences were entertained by a cast of characters which included not only an Aristocat and kittens, but also dogs, geese, a mouse and a litter of ragtag, jazzy alley cats including the famous Thomas O’Malley! They all worked together to upset Edgar the butler’s greedy plan to get rid of the Aristocats and have all of Madame’s money to himself. Fun, laughter and a car ride to the country set the scene for foot tapping jazzy numbers that left the audiences wanting more.

We appreciate the the talent, hard work and dedication of these young actors, many of whom this was their first production. We are so hoping they will come back for future opportunities with our junior theatre team.

Speaking of which, Ponoka Community Theatre and Ponoka United Church present Small Town Musical, a week of theatre arts for youth aged nine to 17. The camp will run Aug. 14 to 18, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Ponoka United Church. Casey and daily guest clinicians will bring this year’s theme of musical theatre to life through singing, dancing, staging and highlights from musicals. This is an opportunity for youth looking to learn about theatre or expand their knowledge and skills. Contact Brielle@kfatheatre.com for more information.

Ponoka Community Theatre’s next production is already in the works. Save the date so you don’t miss The Addams Family – A New Musical, running Oct. 27 to 29 and Nov. 3 to 5, at the Ponoka United Church theatre. The production is directed by Holly Shepard and consulting director, Tiffany Toma. Wednesday has grown up and met a “normal” boyfriend. What happens when the Addams host the “normal” boyfriend’s family for dinner? Come find out!

If you are interested in getting involved with Ponoka Community Theatre, we have many opportunities so please be in touch. We are currently looking for behind the scenes folks interested in learning about set building and painting, costuming and other activities as we prepare for our hilarious, Halloween-time production. No experience is necessary. Contact us at info@kfatheatre.com for more information and to find out how you can become involved.
