Ponoka local performing at popular percussion concert

Ponoka will be part of the beats that will be rocking the roof off the John L. Haar theatre at the MacEwan Music’s Percussion Concert at Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton on March 30.

Ponoka will be part of the beats that will be rocking the roof off the John L. Haar theatre at the MacEwan Music’s Percussion Concert at Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton on March 30.

Paul Hoar, from Ponoka, is a music program student at the college and will be taking part in the concert.

The percussion concert will be directed by Brian Thurgood who is an accomplished percussionist and drummer. Thurgood is also a graduate of Grant MacEwan College and has performed with prestigious artists such as Ashley McIsaac, Anne Murray, Dionne Warwick, Tim Conway and more.

As part of the college’s Month of Music series, percussion students from the two year music program will be entertaining audiences with a large variety of percussion instruments from around the world. The concert will also feature both solo and group performances.

The concert will showcase a multitude of styles including jazz, funk, orchestra and even a garbage can piece.

The intensity builds at the end of the concert with five drum set soloists accompanied by 20 energetic percussionists.
