At 10 a.m. on Nov. 27 at the Legacy Place, the Sunshine Singers, and special guest Mayor Larry Henkelman, were seated onstage in sharp, shiny blue vests. Under the direction of Sybil Evans and with the musical accompaniment of president Barbara Uhl, the group currently consisting of 21 members skillfully sang songs for the audience who joined them in between enjoying delicious snacks served by Family and Community Support Services.

The Sunshine Singers have been in operation for more than 30 years. They are a senior group who gather and practice at Rimoka once a week in preparation for the 10 to 12 performances they put on each year at various locations such as Legacy Place, Northcott the Legion and the Ladies Auxiliary. They also participate in festivals with other senior groups twice a year.

“Music reaches out to everyone in different ways,” said Barbara Uhl. “For us, signing is something we love to do and we are healthier for doing it,” she said. “As I like to say, we’re not getting older, we’re just getting better.”

Anyone in the community is invited to attend their lively performances for an hour of fun and entertainment. The group is also currently seeking any new members who wish to join.
