St. Augustine School thespians are ready to put on a fun rendition of Beauty and the Beast Jr.

The young actors and crew of over 40 students have been working countless hours rehearsing the play, which is set to play this weekend, says drama instructor Nicole Josephison.

With any production comes a certain number of challenges but Josephison said the entire crew has been able to rise above them. One of those challenges is more on a creative level with stage crews having to work with three different sets: the castle, the town and the west wing. “There’s a lot of action happening,” said Josephison.

She added her excitement to be able to showcase the school’s new stage lights, which add to the whole feel of the play.

This production would not be possible without community support.

“We are so blessed to be in a community where people are willing to help each other out,” said Josephison.

Once again, the school was able to borrow costumes from the Klaglahachie Fine Arts Society to ensure all the characters had the period pieces they need. Some other costumes were also borrowed from the Bashaw Community Church group.

With the help of teacher Dayna Wittal, the play’s costumes are put together with some added touches. “She has actually sewn a lot of costumes and repaired a lot of costumes”

Along with rehearsals during school time and after school, the cast of characters has been working on voice training, choreography and more, and Josephison feels they are ready to put on a fun show.

“It’s a story that’s for everyone. There’s nobody that’s going to walk in that door and not enjoy some aspect or some character,” said Josephison.

“They’re going to relate and fall in love with one, if not more characters.”

Showtimes are June 2 at 7 p.m., June 3 at 2 p.m. and June 4 at 6 p.m. Contact the school for ticket prices.
