Sweet success for PCHS’ Willy Wonka

Chocolate, candy, and rotten kids were just some of the highlights of the Ponoka Composite High School’s play ‘Willy Wonka’. The musical took place at the Broncs theatre on March 19, 20, and 21 and entertained each audience daily.

The musical starts and ends with candy and was a play for all ages.

The part of Willy Wonka was alternated between Kai Thompson and Benjamin Goodwin and the role of Charlie was acted by Andrew Jacobs.

The play followed the story of Ronald Dahl’s ‘Willy Wonka’ and focuses on a good natured boy named Charlie. Charlie and his family are poor but stay rich in spirit. Their luck changes when Charlie finds a golden ticket and has the opportunity to visit Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory along with other golden ticket holders.

Throughout the tour Willy Wonka’s odd personality and eccentricity prove to be confusing but wildly entertaining as spoiled child after spoiled child disappear from the tour.

The story has you cheer for the underdog and celebrate the success of Charlie and his family as Willy Wonka chooses him for his good character to run the factory when he retires.

The colourful costumes and set added to the theme of the play and each actor and actress played their part with enthusiasm.

Directed by teacher Airyn Street, the efforts and talents of all involved in the play made Willy Wonka a treat for all who came.
