Ponoka’s annual holiday gala, fundraiser just days away

2018 Festival of Trees in support of operations at the Ponoka hospital set for Nov. 15 to 17

One of the three events for Ponoka’s annual Festival of Trees is already sold out.

The senior’s tea on Nov. 16 has tickets available, plus tickets remain for both the gala on Nov. 15 and the Breakfast with Santa on Nov. 17 — all hosted at the Calnash Ag Events Centre.

Committee chairperson Sherry Gummow explained they are thrilled with the phenomenal commitment being made once again by the people of Ponoka.

“The opening night fundraising gala is sure to be an entertaining event. The trees are beautifully decorated and silent auction items are coming in,” she stated.

To date, the fundraiser has brought in more than $363,000 and the hope this year is to eclipse the committee’s goal of reaching $500,000 in five years.

Funds brought in this year will be put toward purchasing a pair of speciality machines for the hospital’s obstetrics unit.

First is a telemetry machine — will monitor an unborn baby’s heart rate while allowing the mother to be up walking and out of bed — while the other is a neonatal spacelab monitor that will assist staff with constant observation of a newborn’s vital signs.

“With the increasing numbers of families choosing our hospital to deliver their babies in, these items are very important to patient care,” Gummow added.

”The Festival of Trees is a vital fundraiser for the Ponoka and District Health Foundation.”

To purchase tickets for the remain events, stop in at Busted ladies Lingerie during regular business hours.
