The Emergency Department (ED) at the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre will remain open and fully operational today (June 13) after alternative physician coverage has been successfully secured.
There was a previously identified gap in coverage on June 12 until 8 a.m. on June 13, but it has been filled, officials say.
When gaps in physician coverage are identified, Alberta Health Services (AHS) has processes in place to seek alternative coverage to avoid disruptions to services, according to a release.
Earlier this week, due to an unexpected gap in physician coverage, the Emergency Department (ED) was temporarily closed from 5 p.m. on June 10 to 8 a.m. June 11, and from 5 p.m. on June 12 until this morning.
