50-year-old drowns in Sylvan Lake

Police responded to report of capsized boat on Aug. 23

A 50-year-old woman drowned in Sylvan Lake last week after a boat capsized.

Sylvan Lake received a report of a capsized boat on the last just before 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23. A RCMP boat and a Sylvan Lake Fire fire were deployed to assist.

Nine people were helped out of the water, but the woman was located under the capsized boat. Despite lifesaving efforts, she died. The deceased was taken to the office of the chief medical examiner and the investigation continues.

"All individuals on the boat including the deceased were wearing life jackets at the time of the incident," police said in a media release on Thursday.
