A Wetaskiwin man was arrested after allegedly stealing a vehicle the same day he was released by police for another crime.
On June 28, Innisfail RCMP were investigating a suspicious vehicle near the Dickson Dam. Police say the vehicle's occupants were screaming at each other and causing a disturbance.
"RCMP were able de-escalated the situation however one of the persons involved provided RCMP with a false name. That male suspect was arrested for obstruction, failing to comply with release conditions and outstanding traffic warrants out of Wetaskiwin," said RCMP in a media release.
The 35-year-old suspect was charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order. He was released on June 29 following a Judicial Interim release hearing.
Later that day, a SUV was reportedly stolen from an Innisfail residence.
"A family member of the owner saw the vehicle on the (QEII) Highway near Wetaskiwin. Wetaskiwin RCMP intercepted the vehicle and arrested the driver who was the same suspect previously arrested by Innisfail RCMP," said police.
This time, the suspect was charged with possession of property obtained by crime, failing to comply with a release order, driving while unauthorized and driving uninsured.
He is scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin on July 9 and the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on July 24.
