Big blue signs not selling Ponoka

Given that Ponoka's largest tourist attraction is rapidly approaching again, I would like to comment on the big blue advertising signs located east of town on Highway 53.

Dear Editor:

Given that Ponoka's largest tourist attraction is rapidly approaching again, I would like to comment on the big blue advertising signs located east of town on Highway 53.

While the initial sign boasts several attractions, including the world's largest bronc and rider, and indicates that all services are available, the subsequent signs depicting "Food" "Accommodations" and "Gas Stations" are all blank. The sign marked "Other Services" advertises one business — a trucking company.

I would assume that the businesses in town have chosen not to advertise on these signs due to the cost involved, but having huge, blank signs reflects poorly on our town. If I was a first-time visitor to Ponoka and saw these signs as they now stand, I would keep on driving assuming that there was not even a restaurant worth stopping for.

I would hope that whoever was responsible for erecting these signs will be open to working with Ponoka businesses to make this an affordable mode of advertising or else take the signs down
