Emergency water problem gets no response

I hope you don’t need a plumber. It seems as though there aren’t any available in Ponoka. I phoned the three numbers in the phone book that offered plumbing services. To each I said that I had an emergency and that I needed a plumber to come to my house the same day as my water was turned off.

Dear Editor;

I hope you don’t need a plumber. It seems as though there aren’t any available in Ponoka. I phoned the three numbers in the phone book that offered plumbing services. To each I said that I had an emergency and that I needed a plumber to come to my house the same day as my water was turned off. Within an hour each replied to my message and I was hopeful. But one by one, each told me that they couldn’t come until the next week. Didn’t they listen to my message? I thought I told them that my water was turned off. How could I be expected to wait until the next week? Oh yes, each was apologetic, “Sorry, but I’m booking into the next two weeks”, one had said. Perhaps I should have booked an appointment two weeks ago, just on the off chance that I might need a plumber in the future. At this moment, while I write this, I have no water to my house. But according to the companies in Ponoka, that is not an emergency. I wonder if I was willing to pay five times the going rate, how quickly a plumber would come to my house? But no, I will not pay that much, I will wait for my two year old to wake up from his nap; then I will make a trip down to the local hardware store and buy a soldering kit so that I can fix my plumbing problem myself. I have never done any plumbing of that nature before, I always assumed that I could rely on a plumber to come to my house in an emergency. I hope that while you are reading this letter that I finally have running water in my house; no thanks to the plumbing companies in Ponoka.
