Feds respond quickly to Haiti

I am also one who believes that credit must be given where due and our federal government's quick and generous response to the overwhelming tragedy in Haiti is commendable.

Dear Editor:

I often write with criticism of the Harper government. Recent letters have dealt with prorogation and the lack of leadership shown in global environmental stewardship. However, I am also one who believes that credit must be given where due and our federal government's quick and generous response to the overwhelming tragedy in Haiti is commendable.

The preparedness of and dispatch of our navy and emergency response teams was the best on the planet. The rescue effort of Canadian soldiers and civil teams was nothing short of inspirational, and the financial generosity shown by the Canadian government showed leadership both within our borders and outside. Even vocal critics of this government must tip their hats to Prime Minister Stephen Harper on this occasion and show support for the quickness and depth of the effort in Haiti.

It has been a job very well done — and one that shows the world Canadians are still world leaders and able to react with a fierce sense of justice.
