Harper’s Conservatives deserve to be tossed from office

Again, as usual, I enjoyed your last editorial. Good food for thought — unlike the messages from our MP and MLA.

Dear Editor:

Again, as usual, I enjoyed your last editorial. Good food for thought — unlike the messages from our MP and MLA. Because theirs are merely meaningless Conservative propaganda, they're much like reading an advertisement pushing their product as the best. Yet you can't believe a word they say.

I'm reminded that Hitler was democratically voted in and look what happened there. I'm not saying democracy is the problem; I'm trying to yell out — People: We need to be more aware and informed regarding who and what we are voting for.

All this Harper stuff is, as is the Stelmach news, getting alarming, and yet I hear little complaint in this town. Are people that ignorant of how both our premier and prime minister are acting no different than any Third World dictator? The only difference is that we in Alberta and Canada, and especially in Ponoka, vote in our dictators. So Harper will do whatever sneaky thing he wants to do and who can stop him? Just remember, whatever happens, you share the responsibility for it because you either voted for it or failed to vote against it.

And another bit of advice: You're only as wise as your counsel. Thus, it certainly helps to inform yourself as to who advises the people you vote for, and conversely, who you can trust to give you the honest facts of life. You've got to be suspicious of anyone who dismisses his top science adviser these days, yet secretly pays $50,000 of your tax money to get help from one of Bush's advisers. Despite the long list of reasons Harper gives us for ousting him, I'm betting that Ponoka voters will continue to overwhelmingly vote Conservative in the next election.

What a town!
