Dear Editor,

I’d like to commend the mayor and council for their vision with the learning centre project.

I’m well past listening to the vocal minority pushing their short sited ideals and NIMBY (not in my back yard) concerns. This kind of thinking has kept Ponoka to one of the slowest growing communities in Alberta for far too long.

Without new development your taxes are going up because services aren’t getting cheaper. We need a larger tax assessment base and this development is a way to spur that on.

It’s well past time to move on and I’m excited to have Campus Alberta Central with a showcase development in Ponoka. The redevelopment of the old hospital site will be a great anchor for the north end of railway street.

The Hamilton IGA property expansion and redevelopment has made an incredible south entrance to our downtown. I believe the spin offs from this incredible development will be a catalyst for many great new developments in Ponoka in the next few years.
