Dear Editor,

To Colin Piquette: You misrepresented the facts on rural crime. I live here. The police do what they can.

More police won’t matter. And there are no trained officers to hire. That’s what the UCP is saying. It will take 18 months to train employable personnel.

The problem is the justice system. We need GPS anklets on repeat offenders and a deterring atmosphere during jail time. As well, the drug availability must be choked off.

The present government, provincial and federal, has done nothing to put effective pressure on the offenders.

Stop criticizing the suggestions and present some of your own. Mine is isolated work camps coupled with severe rehab.

A special thanks to your paper for printing the names of the recent suspects. We know them well. Photos would be welcome too.
