New motto — Do the right thing

Dear Editor:

First some thanks and praise for Coun. Loanna Gulka. I called her after my car, two school buses and a tow truck all got stuck in the deep snow on our street. She said, “I’ll make a call for you.” And boy, did she deliver. Next morning there was a plow doing a good job of cleaning up the mess.

Economy in government is a fine principle but it ought not to be at the expense of taxpayer, nor should it ignore common sense. When we had that prodigious snowfall recently, a town employee said that there was no plan to plow residential streets, they’d just have to get packed down. It should have occurred to somebody that when the inevitable thaw arrived, we’d have an unholy mess.

One reason Ponoka is such a slow-growth community is that its governments have been too cheap and too timid. They should learn to do what’s right, not what costs the least.
