The After Taste of War
Guns are quiet
The smell of ammunition
and blood is gone
Silent graves have quelled the revenge
Smouldered old buildings mock the horizon.
-
Mothers and wives put away bravery metals
Fathers are left with empty dreams.
-
Was it worth it all?
No one has an answer.
-
Justice is not spared on the battlefield
Torn limbs and crippled legs
Leave stories to be told.
-
An army of men with a cause to be proven
Once healthy and whole to be tried for pride.
Resist and advance
Retreat or surrender
God help us all
In the confusion of war.
-
Wasted young lives are put away
Models of freedom
They gave us a chance
To be more than we are!
-
Reverance is due for all they have given.
