Self appointed birdman of Ponoka upsets resident

Dear Editor; I have a question I would like answered in regards to the fellow who supposedly has such a passion for the birds and the bird refuge near Ponoka. I do understand that the province wide reputation of Ponoka for unusual people residing here may lend itself to part of the answer to my question, however, that cannot, in itself, fully answer my question.

Dear Editor;

I have a question I would like answered in regards to the fellow who supposedly has such a passion for the birds and the bird refuge near Ponoka. I do understand that the province wide reputation of Ponoka for unusual people residing here may lend itself to part of the answer to my question, however, that cannot, in itself, fully answer my question.

My question is this: why is it that this self appointed protector of our winged feathered friends spends so much time shooting birds in and around our neighbourhood (in town)? Or why he traps them to kill later?

My wife spends many hours trying to make our front yard look park like, to attract birds to the bird feeders that she puts out, only to have the fellow across the back alley shoot the birds. I have always been of the opinion that if you espouse protecting one species, you must also care for all the other species, indigenous, or not.

I am tired of finding dead, or nearly dead, birds in my back yard. My son and daughter-in-law, who live close by, have young children that they are trying to teach that indiscriminate shooting is contrary to civilized behaviour in our country. The grandchildren don’t understand why he kills the little birds, frankly, neither do I.
