A local business owner is singing the praises of a generous community as shown through a December food drive

"I did a food drive through December, and it's the first time that I have done this," said Amber Yuzwak of Amber's Alterations. She also had a silent auction, with some local companies donating items that were put up for bid.

"All of those proceeds went to the Ponoka Food Bank as well," she said, adding that those who donated were also offered a 10 per cent discount on alteration services.

"It was very successful - I was really happy with it," she said.

Wedin's, Boston Pizza, and Hamilton's Hair donated silent auction items, which ultimately brought in several hundred dollars as well.

"The entirety of what was raised was $775, and there was about 15 lbs of food items that I was able to donate."

Yuzwak said she is already planning on holding another food drive next December. Seeing folks be so happy to give was inspiring in and of itself.

"It's a wonderful thing."

She even had some gift certificates to give out, but some folks were just happy to give and encouraged her to give the gift certificates to others.

"I was like, how wonderful is that? These people are so generous! It's lovely to see for sure.

"It's very heartwarming for sure."

Yuzwak opened her business right before the pandemic hit, and is thankful for the solid support she has recieved from the community from the get-go.

"People in general are the reason my business is open, and that I am able to keep doing what I do! That is also really fabulous. The people in Ponoka are very kind."
