Areas of downtown Ponoka flooded for a few hours on Friday, June 20, after a flash rain storm.
By about 4:30 p.m., 50 Ave. was underwater.
Some residents reported briefly losing power.
According to the Town of Ponoka, the accumulation of rainwater at the downtown intersection was due to the large volume of rain that fell in a very short period of time.
"The water receded soon after. During major storm events as happened on Friday, roadways are built to act as additional storage for water until it can drain away through the storm water system," said Sandra Smith, communications manager for the town.
"This is not a recurring issue. We have received no reports of nearby properties being impacted by the water."
