RCMP were alerted around 4:15 p.m. on Saturday Aug.7 that a small plane had crashed in a field between the Wetaskiwin Regional Airport and the Wetaskiwin Walmart.

Local emergency services including firefighters and paramedic attended the scene.

RCMP say that the pilot appeared to be the lone occupant of the plane and was taken to and Edmonton hospital via STARS air ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

“The plane appears to have had trouble immediately after takeoff and the pilot tried to bring it down as safety as possible,” said RCMP spokesman Sgt. Shawn French.

RCMP have not released the pilot’s name or further details about the crash. The cause is still under investigation.
