If your business receives a call from MDB Insight on behalf of the Town of Ponoka, it’s not a scam or telemarketing call.

The town has contracted MDB Insight, a management consulting firm that specializes in economic development to assist with the creation of an Economic Development Strategy.

The firm will be contacting local businesses between now and mid-September as part of the first phase of the project, which is a consultation and research component.

The survey is supposed to take about 10 minutes and includes questions on levels of satisfaction with operating a business in town related to availability of skilled and unskilled workers, the state of roads near a business, and access to water, electricity and sewer services.

The calls will seek to gather information on the challenges and opportunities that exist for the local business community as well as identify the future plans and needs of the businesses in Ponoka.

The research will help form the Economic Development Strategy and will be used to plan future economic development strategies aimed at the top priorities of local businesses.

Funds were allocated for the development of an Economic Development Strategy as part of the 2019 budget passed during council’s regular meeting May 14. 2019.

“Increased economic development and growth is essential to helping ensure the long-term viability and sustainability of our community, and will help to further enhance the quality of life that our citizens enjoy in Ponoka.”
