Colton Saskatchewan from Maskwacis won $400,000 at a live 'The Big Spin' lottery event in Calgary on Dec. 3.
Saskatchewan tried his hand at the life-sized wheel on the stage at the Deerfoot Casino during the game show style event and was the top prize winner of the night.
In a press release, Saskatchewan said he was thrilled to discover The Big Spin ticket he bought from Cree Convenience at Samson Mall on Aug. 28 won $10,000 and a date with The Big Spin prize wheel.
“I couldn’t believe it at first,” he said.
“I was like, ‘Ah! Cool!’ Then when I spun the wheel and saw what I had won, I was pretty excited!” he added with a smile.
“I think my brothers have some ideas [on how to spend it]."
Saskatchewan said he plans to put some of his winnings toward starting a business and think about what to do with the rest.
The other winners at the event were Nhat Ngo from Fox Creek and Ted Winch from Stony Plain. Both took home a $200,000 prize.
The Big Spin is a $5 instant ticket with one major difference: players can win cash prizes the same way as with a regular scratch ticket but can also uncover a ‘Spin Win” which lets them discover their prize through an animated prize wheel at any Lotto Spot retailer.
If the player’s Spin Win prize is a “Big Spin” they win $10,000 plus a chance to spin the Big Spin prize wheel.
