On Monday, Dec. 2, Direct Energy employee volunteers are going on a shopping spree to fulfill the wish lists of more than a dozen schools in the Indigenous communities of Alberta, including Maskwacis.

Employees will purchase winter clothing and school supplies in Calgary and Edmonton for students ranging from kindergarten to high school and their family members.

The other Indigenous communities to benefit are Siksika, Tsuutina, Alexander, and Fort McMurray First Nations.

The shopping spree is part of a Director Energy employee initiative called RISE: Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and Supporting Equity.

"Their mission is to foster awareness and understanding of Indigenous culture, history and the issues faced by First Nations in Canada, promote diversity and inclusion for Indigenous persons and support improved relationships with the Indigenous communities we serve," stated a press release.
