A Maskwacis resident has been arrested and charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault following a stabbing in Ermineskin Cree Nation on Friday, Jan. 24.

Maskwacis RCMP received a report about a stabbing at 9:23 p.m. at a residence in Ermineskin, according to media relations officer Cpl. Troy Savinkoff.

The victim received critical injuries. He was taken to the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre for treatment and later transported to another hospital for further care.

STARS air ambulance was dispatched for an inter-facility transfer in the Wetaskiwin area just after midnight, according to X.

As of their last report, the victim was alive, but in critical condition, said Savinkoff.

The RCMP arrested Waylon Ricky Omeasoo, 28, later the same night. In addition to attempted murder and aggravated assault, he was also charged with failing to comply with a release order.

SAvinkoff said at the time of the arrest, Omeasoo was cooperative and taken into custody without incident.

Omeasoo was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody. He is to appear on Jan. 30 at the Wetaskiwin Court of Justice.
