The event's proceeds exceeded this year's fundraising goal

Supporting BGC Wolf Creek in-school mentoring programs, Bowl for Kids was held on March 7 at the Ponoka Leisure Lanes Bowling Alley.

It will also be held in Rimbey on March 14 to support programming in that community.

Meanwhile, organizers are thrilled with how the Ponoka event turned out.

"Our total was $20,066.60. Our goal was $15,000, and so we are so very excited about this," said Beth Reitz, executive director of the Ponoka Youth Centre.

The theme this year was Heroes versus Villains, with teams decked out in all kinds of superb costumes. Bowl for Kids has been held in Ponoka for about 30 years now.

This year's prize winners included Most Money Raised per Team which went to Altitude Spa ($1,600), and Most Money Raised by an Individual which went to Erin St-Cyr from Ponoka RCMP, who raised $480, said Jill Little, director of support programs for Boys and Girls Club Wolf Creek.

Melinda Hatfield from Boston Pizza, who raised $440, landed the Second Most Raised Amount award, and the winner for the Best Dressed Team Costume award went to Rowland, Parker and Associates LLP.

The Best Dressed Adult honours went to Carmen DeCoteau from Battle River Medical.

Finally, this year's Best Dressed Child award was won by Maximus Dennis from Cooperators.

Little was thrilled with how things turned out on every front.

"It was super successful," Little said, adding it's a wonderful feeling to see the event's longevity in the community.

"I attribute it to how much fun it is. This is my first year that I have done it, being new to this role. It was a blast - we had a lot of fun," she said, adding nearly 200 people took part.

"People put a lot of effort into their costumes, as well as a lot of effort into their fundraising. Everyone had a great time while supporting a great cause. It all made my heart really full."

Last year, $18,000 was raised in Ponoka and nearly $7,000 was raised in Rimbey.
