Promising a warm, welcoming environment and a holiday meal with all the trimmings, this year's Ponoka Day Community Christmas dinner will be held at the Calnash Ag Event Centre.

There is no need to register for the dinner — those who would like to attend are asked to just arrive by 10 a.m. or thereabouts, said Val Schabert, the event’s coordinator, adding that dinner is served at noon. Support for the event comes from local businesses and individuals.

In the meantime, Schabert said they could always use more financial support.

Anyone wanting to contribute can drop by the Servus Credit Union and donate to the 'Ponoka Community Christmas' account.

"They can also contact me, and I can make the arrangements to pick it up," she said. Schabert can be reached by calling 403-783-8799.

"And for those who would like to volunteer to help, they can just come. We can put them to work, and if not, they can enjoy a nice meal," she said with a chuckle.

Last year, more than 150 people attended the dinner, she added. "We have seniors, families -- all kinds of people. Everyone is welcome."

For Schabert, coordinating the dinner brings her a rich sense of fulfillment year after year.

"It's nice to see people happy. It provides both a place to go, and people to visit with."

Those needing to book a ride though HandiVan can call 403-783-9752.
