Ponoka RCMP arrest clears extensive warrants

The Ponoka RCMP arrested Caleb Joseph Shimwell on July 30 which cleared up seven arrest warrants comprising of 21 outstanding criminal code charges out of Ponoka, one arrest warrant out of Wetaskiwin and three warrants out of Lacombe.

A previous investigation conducted by Wetaskiwin and Ponoka RCMP resulted in the arrest of Shimwell on June 20, for a series of break-ins. A hearing was held, Shimwell was released with a court date, and Shimwell failed to attend his court appearance.

Currently, Shimwell is facing two fail to attend court, five fail to comply with a probation order, and five fail to comply with a recognizance charges amongst his substantive charges.

A judicial interim hearing has been held and bail was not addressed. Shimwell remains in custody and he has appearances in Ponoka, Red Deer and Wetaskiwin courts via CCTV on August 2, 2019.
